Here's my BIO:

I was born in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, in 1964.  I was adopted by a Venezuelan couple through the Catholic Church and was raised during most of my childhood in Valencia, Edo. Carabobo, Venezuela.  By the end of May, 1980, my parents, my sister and I immigrated to the United States of America and moved into a town just East of Atlanta, GA.  Ever since to this day I live a bit further East of Atlanta and have settled down and grown roots!

I currently serve as a Senior Field Engineer for an Atlanta based company and I travel extensively between the US and Canada.  I wear many hats for my employer and I thrive in accomplishing most of the challenges placed before me, whether performing installations, upgrades, repairs and/or training surrounding the various technologies offerred by the product(s) sold to the customer.

In September, 2009, I was home and traveled across town to a Church where testing took place to obtain the Amateur Radio License.  Prior to that I was given one of Gordon West's study guides and I soaked it up in less than a month.  I took the test and passed it with flying colors!  Once I had my ticket, I purchased my first radio: A Yaesu/Vertex VX-150 2 meter transceiver.

Soon after the FCC processed my ticket, I was given the call letters: KJ4OMO.  I began to tune into some of the local Atlanta repeaters and was greeted by many individuals on the air, welcoming me to the hobby.  When folks asked me for my name and I would say it over the radio, there was some confusion on the pronunciation and spelling, so I simply asked them to call me Joe.  Since my middle name is Joseph, it seemed easier for them to remember rather than my first name.  I may have caused some confusion on what I would prefer to be called while on the air, but seeing that not all hams use their real first name, I found it OK to be asked to be called Joe.  So, some call me Nevir (for those who can pronounce it and spell it correctly) and Joe to others.

Since then, I have purchased a second HT, a Yaesu VX-8R, which is a quad-band transceiver with APRS and other features.  It is one of my most important travel items, including a magnetic mount antenna!

After a couple months I had learned that I could apply for a vanity call and I did.  I looked around and found W1NGM available and filled out the necessary application through the FCC and requested it.  Almost three weeks later, the FCC granted my application.

By the end of May, 2010, I thought about possibly obtaining a new callsign that would closely match my first name.  I went to the FCC ULS site and searched for N3VIR.  The call had assigned to an individual and the call sign had expired for some time.  I immediately filled out a request to change my call sing and paid the fee.  By mid-June, 2010, the FCC granted my application.  I am very pleased with the call sign and I truly believe it is a keeper! :-)

I am currently an active member of the Walton County ARES Club and, as time allows when at home, I participate in any and all activities with the club.

I am also an active ARRL member, which provides me with a monthly magazine subscription containing a wealth of information related to Amateur Radio and I receive regular informative emails regarding certain activitives throughout the planet.
